The friendship between Britain and Chile goes back to the beginning of Chilean independence during the first part of the nineteenth century and to the role played by such men as Admiral Lord Cochrane. |

This was the start of a relationship which provided the ancestry of many Chileans today including the former President, Patricio Aylwin. And it led to the founding of the Anglo Chilean Society in 1944.
