United Kingdom Consolidates its Position as First Destination for Chilean Masters and PHD Students A
According to the results of the latest BecasChile call, 49% of scholarships granted for the 2017-2018 process went to Chileans who want to pursue their Master’s degrees at British universities. From the 175 BecasChile students who will arrive this summer to the United Kingdom, 59 will continue their education at University College London, 23 at the London School of Economics, 21 at the University of Edinburgh, and the rest at other prestigious universities in the UK. In fact, those three British universities were among the top 5 universities in the world in attracting Chilean Master’s degrees. 80% of those students will read for/study a degree in social studies and humanities.
Likewise, 30% of the scholarships granted this year for Doctoral degrees will come to the United Kingdom, a total of 107 Chileans. 7 British Universities (UCL, Edinburgh, Manchester, Oxford, Nottingham, Cambridge and Bristol) are among the top 10 destinations for Chilean candidate doctors under the BecasChile scholarship programme.
We welcome all these young fellow Chileans to the United Kingdom and wish them all the success in their studies and research. Student and academic research between Chile and the United Kingdom is one of the key areas of work for the Chilean Embassy in London and we will continue to help academic institutions in both countries to strengthen ties and increase cooperation.
