Times of difficult news from Chile. The very sad news of the loss of former President Piñera in a helicopter crash. This followed the escalating and devastating news reports of over one hundred people dead, many missing and thousands of homes lost and people displaced in the wildfires in Chile, particularly in the V Region around Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. Each piece of news impacting on individuals, families, friends and communities.
The Anglo-Chilean Society was set up and continues to promote bonds of friendship and understanding between the UK and Chile. Friends count at times like these and we send our thoughts of condolence and friendship to all those affected by recent news. We will be making support for projects for those affected by and recovering from the fires, a priority in our grant support in this, our 80th anniversary year.
