About the Event

Dear members and friends, Richmond Film Society, a not-for-profit charity will be screening ‘A Fantastic Woman’ (Chile), the 2018 Foreign Language Oscar winner.

Synopsis A young transgender woman finds herself viewed with suspicion by both the authorities and blood relatives when her older lover dies unexpectedly. She is traumatised, but this is just the beginning of her troubles as she tries to deal with the legal and familial fallout following his death. Instead of being comforted in a time of grief, she is shunned and criminalised. A stunning and shocking story set against the background of contemporary Chilean society. At the same time subtle and tender, 'A Fantastic Woman' handles its timely, sensitive subject matter with care and leaves many memorable scenes in the mind long after the picture has run its course.

Venue: The Exchange, 75 London Road, Twickenham, TW1 1BE. The Exchange is directly opposite Twickenham station, which is served by trains to and from Waterloo, Vauxhall, Clapham Junction, Kingston and Reading.

Date: 18th September 8PM

Non-member tickets are only £5 (£3 full-time students) and they can be purchased on the night (cash only), in advance from The Exchange’s Box Office (in person or by telephone on 020 8240 2399) or online at http://exchangetwickenham.co.uk/events/
