About the Event

The Anglo Chilean Society is pleased to invite you to our annual mining event to be held at the Society of Antiquaries of London on Tuesday 25th October at 1030 am.

The keynote speaker will be the Minister of Mining Ms Marcela Hernando Pérez

Dr. Hernando is a surgeon and holds four master’s degrees. Her political career began in the Antofagasta Region and the city where she has lived for more than thirty years. She began her career in public health in the regional capital and she has stood out in her career for paving the way for other women in the region, being the first female regional director of the National Health Service; the first female Regional Health Secretariat (SEREMI); the first female regional governor and the first elected female mayor of Antofagasta, between 2008 and 2012.

Later, she was elected deputy, representing the Antofagasta Region, being the first active member of the Partido Radical to be elected at the national level in fifty years. She served as deputy for two periods, 2014-2018 and 2018-2022.

During her parliamentary term she presented more than 420 bills to the Lower Chamber; she also participated in the Mining Commission for four years, being its president in 2019.

The world drive to Net Zero by 2050 and global needs for energy transformation  means major opportunities for Chile, both an environmental leader and with significant mineral resources.

This is an opportunity for you to participate in a conversation with Minister Hernando Pérez on developments in the mining industry and future opportunities in Chile.
