About the Event
For our next exciting online event, the Society will experience the best of Chilean Dance Theatre from The Hilo Rojo Dance Company who will present a performance of the virtual play Madeja de Gestos (Gesture’s Skein), which will provide a tour through the company's recent repertoire.
Hailing from the port city of Valparaíso, The Hilo Rojo Dance Company, directed by the choreographer Maria Jose Franco Campos, is a dance company that specialises in creating short stories through dance and utilising aspects of Chilean culture in its artistry.
The show comprises four parts:
· Hipotónico (Hypotonic), a solo that investigates the hypnotic condition of bodies.
· Viudas del Mar (Widows of the Sea), filmed in the mythical Plaza Echaurren in Valparaíso and inspired by the funeral rite undertaken in the Bio Bio region for fishermen who die at sea.
· Gravitar (Gravitate) is a journey through the craft of the chinchinero (carrying and playing a drum on the artist’s back) integrated with contemporary dance.
· The online event will conclude with a composite capsule of the company’s work in 2019, created by Maureen Maynenicholls.
After the performance, members of the company team will be interviewed by international dance critic (and Society member) Graham Watts OBE and will be pleased to participate in a discussion on the creation and production of their work with members of the Anglo Chilean Society.
Come and join us for the very best dance theatre from Chile!
