I am honoured to have been elected Chairman of the Anglo Chilean Society. I have been involved with Chile for many years, captivated from my first visit on holiday and then through my work with the FCDO (Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office). First, from 2011 -2014 as part of the 'Canning Agenda' to build and deepen relations with Latin America, then from 2014-2018 as Her Majesty's Ambassador to Chile and since March 2020 as part of my role as Regional Ambassador for Latin America and the Caribbean, COP26 - the UN Climate Change conference. All this has led to a great interest in Chile, many professional contacts and good friends. Also from my career lots of interests in business, defence and science and innovation, as well as the environment and ocean issues. I have been fortunate to travel to many beautiful places in Chile and am interested too in history, literature and music. I have a lifelong interest in Antarctica and also enjoy researching maritime history. I have enjoyed participating in a number of events with the Anglo Chilean Society and look forward to hearing from members on the events and activities they would like to see in the future.
