ANTHONY WESTNEDGE OBE (1944-2026)

Anthony was a stalwart of the Anglo Chilean Society and will be greatly missed. 

He was honoured by two Latin American countries: First by Venezuela with the Order of Francisco de Miranda (First Class); then by Chile with the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins, Commodore.

He was Chairman of the Anglo-Latin American Foundation, Chairman of the Hispano-Luso Brazilian Council (better known as Canning House), Chairman of the Anglo-Venezuelan Society and on the boards or committees of many more Anglo-Latin American country Societies and Chambers of Commerce. He was Deputy Chairman of the English-Speaking Union; Vice Chairman of the Latin American Trade Advisory Group; Court member of the Worshipful Company of Distillers; Committee member of the Caledonian Club; Board member of the European Atlantic Group; and he was for decades a stalwart of the Honourable Artillery Company, the Scotch Whisky Association, the Kensington and Chelsea Conservative Association and the Cofradía del Merito Vitivinicola de Chile.

Most significantly for him, perhaps, he was, in his own words, the man who made Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky the gift of choice at any party in Latin America.
