Louise de Sousa, new British Ambassador, Santiago-Chile

Biography

Louise joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1991 after a short period in the private sector following completion of her degree at Bristol University in ancient history and archaeology.


Previously she was Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Tunisia. Louise has also headed the Mediterranean Department in the Europe Directorate, and before that she led the Human Rights and Democracy Department.


Louise has been posted to Brasilia as Second Secretary (1993-1996), Maputo as Deputy High Commissioner (2003-2006) and Nairobi as Deputy High Commissioner (2007-2011).


Her roles in London have also covered environment policy, international drugs and crime policy and the Overseas Territories. She was Secretary to the FCO’s Board of Management from 1998 to 1999. Louise is married to Allan. They have a son and a daughter.
