My first visit to Chile was in the early 1990s and I during one of my visits to the enigmatic country was introduced by a well-meaning friend to Marcela and in 1996 we were married in Viña del Mar. I am fortunate to have enjoyed a long career in aerospace and defence with specialism in commercial and legal aspects. After a brief stay in the UK after we were married, we have since lived in France and latterly Saudi Arabia and the UAE before returning to the UK where we settled in Windsor. Throughout this time, we had many visits to Chile and were able to go to other parts of the country as over various trips I fulfilled my objective of driving the entire length of Ruta 5 that stretches from Arica in the north down to Puerto Montt in the south. I have a particular fascination with the history of Chile particularly the connections with the British navy dating back to the time of Lord Cochrane. I am currently enjoying a sabbatical period and as part of this I want to spend more time in Chile as well as supporting the Anglo Chilean Society in their various endeavours.
