Thank you to Roberto Perez for a fascinating talk on the important role of the volunteers from Chile in WWII. Roberto’s in depth researches in both the UK and Chile are shining a light on this little known and vital contribution to the British efforts. Driven by a proud Anglo Chilean heritage, deep values and sense of duty c.600 volunteers went from Chile to fight for Britain. This built on the previous and also little known contribution of the ‘West Coast Boys’ in WWI.
Roberto’s presentation covered some of the brave individuals and their stories, set in the context of the trade flows between UK and South America and the support of the communities at both ends of the world. It also highlighted the foundations of the Anglo Chilean Society - this year celebrating its 80th Anniversary.
