Order of Bernardo O’Higgins to Mr. Robert Hart

On the 14th of November His Excellency The Ambassador, and Mrs Drago hosted a ‘Vin d’Honneur’ at their residence in London for a very special occasion. This event was held to mark and celebrate the award of the Order of Bernardo O'Higgins to Mr. Robert Hart, the Treasurer of the Anglo-Chilean Society.

Robert, after many happy years as the Financial Director for Unilever Chile had looked for inspiring work in his retirement. After an unsuccessful foray at the Italian Society, he settled with the Anglo-Chilean Society and he has for over twenty years managed our financial affairs. We are glad that he chose us as now our finances are in good shape and his further stewardship of the Alan MacDonald Foundation has helped their funds grow.

His work has enabled the Society to continue their financial support for many charitable projects in Chile.

The Ambassador reminded us that the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins is the highest civilian honour awarded to non-Chilean citizens and it is in his gift to recommend recipients to the Government in Santiago. He was therefore very proud to confer the order in our presence.

Robert, now an Officer of the Order joins a distinguished list of civilians who have made a difference to Chile, especially overseas.

The Chairman and the Executive Committee of the Anglo-Chilean Society offer our sincere congratulations to Robert and his wife and family who were all present at this special evening.
