The Anglo Chilean Society, together with generous donations from members has made it possible to help the Fundacion Betania Acoge to re-build part of two houses for two families after the great Valparaiso fire.
Each re-build costs around £8.000, and there is still much to complete. The reason that the Society choose these particular two families was in part because the deeds to the land have been proved. In general the location and ownership of these houses rests with squatter’s rights, so these deeds are and will remain an important fact in the decision about building new houses for the women.
The aim of Betania is not only to get the women off the street but to give them life skills and training for their future development and support and to make their transition permanent and sustainable.
