Contemporary plays from Chile

The Anglo Chilean Society is pleased to award a grant from the Alan Macdonald Fund in support of Contemporary Plays from Chile, an important new anthology to be published by Bloomsbury. This collection brings together seven outstanding contemporary Chilean playwrights, offering English‑language translations of works that have not previously been available to international readers.

The anthology highlights the richness and diversity of Chilean dramaturgy today, with a strong representation of female playwrights and translators, and themes that resonate deeply with both Chilean and global audiences. Through stories that explore memory, trauma, family, political history, and cultural identity, the volume provides a vital resource for students, teachers, researchers, theatre practitioners, and readers interested in Latin American literature and contemporary playwriting.

We are proud to support a project that will significantly expand access to Chilean theatre in the English‑speaking world and foster new opportunities for performance, study, and cultural exchange.
