Yesterday, 22 January, we hosted a vibrant gathering at the Chilean Embassy with award‑winning journalist and author Shafik Meghji, whose book Small Earthquakes explores Britain’s often-overlooked historical ties with South America—from the Atacama Desert and Tierra del Fuego to Easter Island and South Georgia.

We were delighted to welcome Ambassador Ximena Fuentes, Baroness Hooper, and many ACS members and friends who engaged enthusiastically with Shafik, sharing personal experiences from Chile and posing thoughtful, lively questions.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so memorable, and to the Chilean Embassy for always welcoming and hosting us with such generosity.
