The ACS Mining Conference 2023

On the 10th of October we had an exciting past week as The Anglo Chilean Society recently hosted Minister Aurora Williams, within #LMEweek. The Minister shed light on #Chile's unwavering commitment to #sustainability and its ambitious strategy to meet the 2050 goals. During the event, several crucial aspects of Chile's role in this global effort were discussed, including the abundance of critical minerals, the prominence of copper and #lithium, and the promising prospects of #hydrogen energy.

Minister Aurora Williams emphasized the importance of Chile's role in the global push towards #sustainability. The country has set ambitious goals, aiming to become carbon neutral by 2050. Achieving this target involves harnessing its vast mineral resources in ways that minimize environmental impact and contribute to the reduction of #greenhouse #gas emissions.

Chile is known for its abundance of critical minerals, a term that encompasses various elements necessary for the manufacturing of high-tech products and renewable energy technologies. These minerals, including lithium, #cobalt, and rare earth elements, are indispensable in the production of batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles, all of which are vital components of a sustainable and green future.

The event was made possible through the support of our sponsors Anglo American, Grupo Antofagasta Minerals, Elecmetal, London Metal Exchange, Rio Tinto, and Teck Resources Limited.

As the world continues to grapple with the urgent need to combat climate change and transition to cleaner, more sustainable technologies, Chile's commitment to a Net Zero future and its strategic approach to critical minerals, copper, lithium, and hydrogen energy serve as a compelling example of how countries and industries can work together to address these global challenges. The mining sector, with its vast resources and innovative approaches, is poised to be a pivotal player in this transformative journey towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible world.
